Biovitae is a UV-FREE LED lighting device that kills up to 99.8% of viruses (including Covid-19), bacteria, fungi and spores. Through its microbicidal action, it controls the risk of infection and counteracts the exacerbation of symptoms of allergic diseases.

Biovitae is also the first technology to introduce the concept of LIFE CENTRIC LIGHTING — that is, biological lighting — through a platform that integrates continuous sanitisation, biological compatibility and light quality, turning every light point into an active protection system.

The microbicidal action is produced by a special combination of certain frequencies of the visible (non-UV) spectrum emitted in the range between 400 and 420 nm, which scientific tests by countless research institutes and universities have shown to be harmful to bacteria and other microorganisms (spores, bacterial moulds and bacterial fungi). The special frequency mix produced by Biovitae has also been successfully tested on SARS -Cov2.

Biovitae acts on viruses through photolysis of the phospholipids and oxidation of the glycoproteins that make up the viral envelope. Because many viruses share the same structure, Biovitae is also effective against other viral species.Biovitae acts on viruses through photolysis of the phospholipids and oxidation of the glycoproteins that make up the viral envelope. Unlike all other sanitisation solutions, with Biovitae you’re always protected.

Biovitae guarantees continuous sanitisation even in the presence of living beings, unlike other sanitisation systems – from chemical detergents to ozone to UV – which can only be used when people are absent. Continuous sanitisation is the most effective solution for preventing and containing bacterial or viral infections, and it also offers an important response to bacterial antibiotic resistance.

Because the light works in complete safety, in the presence of people and in any environment, Biovitae safeguards the natural resilience of our immune system, offering effective protection for children, adults and animals.

With Biovitae:
you’re always protected
– you replace your normal white lighting
– you can use it in every room of the house: from the children’s bedroom to the kitchen

Biovitae sanitises environments and kills (not just inactivates) viruses and bacteria.

No, Biovitae is UV-free. UV rays emit a violet light and are harmful to living beings; they can only be used in empty rooms or by shielding the light source.

Biovitae’s white light is used just like a normal light bulb, as it has no contraindications for continuous use in the presence of humans and animals.

Biovitae’s effectiveness against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) has been verified by the Scientific Department of the Celio Military Hospital in Rome and, independently, also by military laboratories in Germany and Sweden, as well as by the Department of Microbiology at La Sapienza University in Rome and by the CEA (Commissariat à l’énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives) in France.

Tests and studies

Yes, because the range of frequencies emitted by Biovitae covers the entire visible spectrum, particularly wavelengths from 400 to 420nm, a range known as the Soret Band. These frequencies have been scientifically proven effective against all bacteria (GRAM+ and GRAM-), including antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), as well as against spores, bacterial moulds, bacterial fungi and yeasts.

All bacterial microorganisms, including mould and fungi, undergo the oxidative effect induced by Biovitae.

However, once colonies transform into mycelium and have therefore reached the characteristic dark, spongy formation visible to the naked eye, they are no longer microorganisms but fully-fledged plant organisms. In this form, they can no longer be eradicated through the action of Biovitae (which is, after all, designed to be harmless to living organisms such as humans, animals and plants); instead, suitable mechanical or chemical removal measures will be required (such as scraping or the use of anti-mould/anti-fungal paints or treatments).

Mould is generated by unhealthy environments with excess humidity and condensation, which create the ideal habitat for the proliferation of fungi and bacteria. Sanitising environments will therefore certainly help prevent the formation of mould. For mould that has already formed, the type and stage of development would need to be assessed.

Biovitae controls and reduces this proliferation and prevents the formation of mould of bacterial and fungal origin.

Biovitae is a sanitisation system active against microorganisms and, as such, does not replace normal cleaning and dirt removal activities.

No, because a sanitised environment is not a sterile one. Total elimination of bacteria would disrupt the immune system’s natural resilience, weakening it.

Biovitae has been designed to contain the microbial load and keep the environment sanitised, without sterilising it.

Until recently, the best-known and most widespread form of antimicrobial light irradiation was that using wavelengths from the ultraviolet (UV) spectrum, particularly UV-C radiation (from 100 to 280 nm), which has traditionally been used for disinfection. However, it has now been demonstrated not only that UV radiation is effective only in the presence of specific environmental parameters (particularly precise levels of temperature and humidity), but also that it is carcinogenic to humans and alters the organoleptic and nutritional properties of food, as well as altering the structural properties of materials (for example, weakening plastics). Furthermore, UV rays act on the genetic structure of the microorganism and therefore do not eliminate it permanently but instead cause its inactivation, meaning they inhibit its ability to replicate without eradicating it for good. Recent discoveries have shown that some microorganisms, particularly bacteria, have mechanisms capable of repairing the genetic damage induced by UVC rays; some viruses are also able to do this, reactivating themselves using certain enzymes from the hosts in which they have settled. Biovitae is not harmful to living beings: it can be used indoors in any environmental conditions and irreversibly eliminates the microorganisms it acts on.

No, Biovitae technology uses only visible light and emits neither UV-C radiation nor any other source of ozone formation. In this way, Biovitae complies with all regulations relating to user safety.

Biovitae conforms to the International standards IEC 62471 (Photobiological safety of lamps and lamp systems) and IEC TR 62778 (Application of IEC 62471 for the assessment of blue light hazard to light sources and luminaires), which govern the limits for the use of lighting devices in the presence of humans and animals.

Biovitae has been classified as RG-0 (Risk Group 0) under EN62471 standards, meaning it is suitable for continuous use in the presence of living beings. Biovitae is therefore in no way harmful to either humans or animals.

The metabolic reaction in bacteria, as well as the photolysis effect, begins from the very first moment of exposure to Biovitae, reaching the minimum sensitivity level after just 5 minutes from first switch-on.

Discover its technology.

Biovitae’s effect continues even when the lamps are switched off. It depends on the degree of photo-excitation of the porphyrins and several other factors, but it lasts at least an hour in any case.

Unlike other devices on the market and UV frequencies, Biovitae’s action works through an effect on the general metabolism of the bacterium rather than on its genetic material: Biovitae’s frequencies stimulate the porphyrins in bacteria, triggering an uncontrolled metabolic reaction through the photo-excitation of porphyrin molecules present in bacterial cells, and setting off an uncontrolled production of free radicals within the microorganism.

From that point onwards, an oxidation process of the bacterium’s cellular structure begins, causing irreversible damage and, therefore, its definitive destruction.

No, bacteria have developed defences against antibiotics through genetic mutations that have allowed them to adapt to all existing molecules. Biofilm is a form of aggregation between bacteria in a protected environment, enabling them to survive even in hostile conditions and to mutate their genetic structure “undisturbed”. Biovitae, however, has the power to trigger an uncontrolled, self-destructive metabolic action in bacteria, against which they cannot generate any known resistance mechanism. Furthermore, Biovitae is also able to penetrate biofilm, reaching the bacteria aggregated within it.

Biovitae does not eliminate bacteria entirely but reduces their numbers. Biovitae’s frequencies control bacterial proliferation, so that bacterial populations don’t become numerous enough to pose a danger to human health.

Furthermore, not only does the majority of so-called “good” bacteria generally reside in the gut of higher living beings, where they can’t be reached by the light, but they’re also less sensitive to Biovitae’s wavelengths. As a result, they’re able to occupy the spaces in the ecosystem left vacant by the eradication of pathogenic microorganisms.

The lifespan in hours of the Biovitae lamp is at least 30% longer than traditional top-of-the-range “competitor” lamps. This means that the “environmental impact per hour of operation” (i.e. the lamp’s ecological footprint) is among the lowest in the sector.

No, medical device registration regulations don’t provide for – or allow – environmental and/or surface sanitisation devices to be registered as such.

Biovitae has been included in the GMDN (Global Medical Device Nomenclature) under a category created specifically for our technology, called “Blue-light germicidal bulb/lamp”, with the following description:

Blue-light germicidal bulb/lamp “A light bulb thai emits light in the blue wavelength region of the visible spectrum (i.e., Sorel band) intended to destroy microbes (e.g., bacteria, viruses) in an indoor environment. It is designed lo be installed in a conventional lighting syslem, or use in the home or in a clinical setting. This is a reusable device”.

This allows registration as a medical device in all countries where the limitations set out in European regulations don’t apply.

Biovitae holds numerous certifications of effectiveness issued on the basis of tests by accredited and certified bodies, including:
– military laboratories in Germany, Italy and Sweden;
– the French CEA (Commissariat à l’énergie atomique);
– the ICGEB in Trieste.

Biovitae is a preventive device that doesn’t replace pharmacological treatment or other measures put in place to limit the risk of contagion. Biovitae eliminates bacteria and viruses from surfaces and environments and, therefore, significantly reduces the risk of contagion through contact (surfaces-hands-mucous membranes) and aerosol transmission. However, Biovitae cannot act against direct person-to-person contagion, which only masks and social distancing can effectively prevent.

No, on the contrary, there are various studies that have demonstrated the beneficial effects of blue-violet light on the neurological system. The cities of Glasgow and Tokyo have already carried out trials on this, with very positive effects in terms of reducing crime and suicide rates.

BIOVITAE Domus costs 35 euros. For 8 hours of use a day, the cost of running BIOVITAE for a full calendar year is under 5 euros (at an all-inclusive electricity cost of 0.19 euros/kWh), or around 0.00171 euros per hour of use.

Of course. Biovitae Domus can be used in any room, even in the presence of children.

Biovitae Domus has been designed to work within domestic environments, where there is no significant risk of contagion between people who don’t live together. Although it can also be used to illuminate and protect small, low-risk workplaces, it’s absolutely not recommended for professional use. For these cases, please refer to the Biovitae products specifically designed for use in work environments.

The procedure follows the normal disposal methods for all electronic products, by handing it in to the retailer or to authorised disposal centres. BIOVITAE has a reduced environmental impact, as it has been designed based on the requirements set out by Design for the Environment (DfE): (i) a low number of components (only 5 parts), (ii) speed of disassembly (the parts aren’t soldered but assembled by interlocking), (iii) easy identification of materials, and (iv) a reduced presence of harmful metals (BIOVITAE is ROHS2 certified).
