Haier, a global leader in the home appliance industry, has chosen Biovitae for its I-Pro Shine line. This is the world’s first line of dishwashers featuring active sanitization using visible light. The technology works through a photodynamic mechanism that inactivates microorganisms on dishes and the interior surfaces of the tub, without the use of chemical additives or UV radiation.
How it works
The principle is the same as that underlying all Biovitae applications: light operating in the Soret band of the visible spectrum acts directly on microorganisms, inactivating them. But how does this work inside the dishwasher? The stainless steel of the tub reflects the light, ensuring uniform distribution across the entire interior surface.
Operating procedures
The Biovitae I-Pro Shine has four distinct functions, each of which is activated at a different stage of the usage cycle.
- UltraClean 45° combines Biovitae light with a 45°C wash cycle, which operates at a lower temperature than traditional high-temperature hygiene programs. Less heat required means less energy consumed.
- Odour Safe Mode keeps bacterial growth under control for up to 10 hours before the wash cycle, without using water. Biovitae is then activated in the closed tub between uses, reducing the proliferation of bacteria responsible for unpleasant odors.
- Purify Pro-Light is the post-wash cycle: it treats dishes and the interior surfaces of the tub, eliminating up to 93% of residual bacteria in about 2 hours.
- Baby Care is the program designed for baby bottles and baby accessories.
“After nearly three years of intensive work in research, development, and industrialization, the collaboration between Biovitae and Haier has turned a major challenge into an amazing achievement – explains Biovitae CEO Mauro Pantaleo -. Biovitae Ipro-Shine is the result of a partnership that combines innovation and vision, bringing to everyday life a solution capable of reducing chemical use and energy consumption in an action repeated billions of times every day around the world”.
