Environmental safety is being enhanced at RSA Navigli, part of the Anni Azzurri network, thanks to the introduction of Biovitae technology. The KOS Group facility has integrated visible-light sanitization devices into its existing prevention protocols.

How Biovitae works

Biovitae is a UV-free sanitizing LED light that emits a specific combination of frequencies within the visible spectrum (400–420 nm), effective against bacteria, Gram-positive and Gram-negative viruses, molds, fungi and spores. This technology helps create safer environments in schools, hospitals, workplaces and public spaces, as it provides continuous sanitization while remaining safe for everyone: it can be used without restrictions in the presence of people and pets.

Application in healthcare and care settings

Several tests carried out in independent, certified laboratories show that visible light can inactivate various microorganisms and support environmental contamination control. In healthcare and care settings, this technology represents a complementary tool alongside the measures already recommended by health authorities, such as ventilation, hygiene and proper care practices.

The KOS–Biovitae collaboration project

The introduction of Biovitae at RSA Navigli is supported by dedicated operational procedures and ongoing monitoring, in line with the guidance of the KOS Group Medical Directorate. The aim is to improve the quality of environments and strengthen a culture of prevention and safety for the benefit of both residents and staff.

This initiative is part of a broader path undertaken by Anni Azzurri, focused on the gradual integration of innovative technological solutions to support quality of care.

“The Biovitae project – explains Maddalena Cordoglio, Clinical Care Process Lead for Anni Azzurri Residences within the KOS Group, – represents a strategic opportunity to improve the quality of healthcare services provided. It will also improve our staff’s working environments by reducing the risk of exposure to pathogens”.

“We were able to install lighting units in all areas. We also provided dedicated training for our staff to explain how these lamps work, but above all their benefits namely the possibility of introducing an additional tool alongside their daily work to reduce the bacterial load on all working surfaces”, says Valeria Rutigliano, Director of RSA Anni Azzurri Navigli.

Dr. Rosa Draisci, member of Biovitae’s Scientific Committee, adds further details on the trial: “It lasted several months and involved a large number of samples, along with monitoring activities, in order to obtain solid and reliable scientific data. This white light, already validated in accredited laboratories, significantly reduces microbiological contamination, improves surface hygiene and has also allowed us to reduce the use of chemical products for daily cleaning”.

“Moreover – adds Mauro Pantaleo, CEO of Biovitae – it delivers excellent light quality that has a positive impact on the circadian system—through a simple gesture we all perform unconsciously every day: switching on the light”.
